Alice and David met in May 2007 at a performance of Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Mass in Time of War in Romsey Abbey, where
Alice was the soprano soloist and David the organist. At once they began working together exploring the rich repertoire of
English, French and German song. In September 2007 they became engaged and will be married in Romsey Abbey later in 2008.
Musically,
their entries into the career have both been unconventional; after a first degree in Cultural Studies with Music and the beginnings
of a career in recruitment consultancy, Alice took further musical and voice training at Birmingham Conservatoire, the Kodály Institute in
Hungary, and privately with Ashley Stafford. Since returning to Hampshire she has become established as a performer, teaches privately and in several schools,
is regularly called upon for choral and consort singing and is vocal coach to Hampshire County Youth Choir. David was an Oxford organ scholar and then worked in the glass industry for several years
before building the beginnings of a musical career which led him to Romsey Abbey, where he became Assistant Organist late in 2005.
As well as this role, he is currently Head of Keyboard Studies at Bournemouth University, repetiteur to five choral societies and in wide demand as a teacher, particularly
of organ improvisation. His first solo CD,
The Organ of Romsey Abbey, was released in December 2007
to warm critical acclaim.
Together,
they have performed as soloists and guest artists in numerous places around the UK as well as Malta and Italy. Highlights of their joint appearances in 2008
include the second performance of David Owen Norris' cantata
Prayerbook, songs and solos with Winchester City Festival Choir, several
church and cathedral lunchtime recitals and two CD recording projects. Off stage, they have founded the musical training organisation
Music Intuition,
and through that are preparing to launch a children's choir in the Romsey area.
